What We Do

What we do

Our team of orthodontic professionals will ensure that every stage of your treatment is performed to the highest possible standard.

Our orthodontist, Dr Kim Pang, works closely with a team of university qualified dental therapists, dental nurses, reception staff and a dental technician.

Having a dedicated dental technician linked to our team allows us to process lab-work faster. We have an onsite dental laboratory so urgent work can be done right here at the clinic; work is also done off-site to minimise noise and to expedite construction of retainers, mouthguards, and other appliances. Our technician will prioritise your work so that it gets to you as soon as possible.

All our team are trained in their orthodontic field and committed to providing exceptional patient care. Our friendly reception staff will do their absolute best to find appointment times that work for you. Please contact them to make a booking today!

Orthodontic treatment enhances the health, function and appearance of your teeth. It is not only about how your teeth look, but also about how your teeth and jaws function and work together in a healthy manner.

Here are some of the top reasons why people seek orthodontic treatment:

Here are some of the top reasons why people seek orthodontic treatment:

To Look Good!

Put simply, orthodontic treatment gives people a more attractive smile. This can work wonders on a person’s confidence and is a prime reason why people see an orthodontist.

To Maintain Hygiene

Maintaining proper dental hygiene is vital to preventing gum disease, tooth decay and tooth loss. Unfortunately, crooked, crowded or overlapping teeth make cleaning difficult, no matter how diligent you are at brushing. Getting your teeth straightened makes it easier for you to care for them.

Speech

Poor alignment of the teeth and jaws can impact the way you speak. Some people seek orthodontic treatment to help improve their speech.

Problems with the Jaw Joint

A bad bite may cause unnecessary stress to a person’s jaw joint. In turn, this can cause damage around the joint area. Many sufferers also get pain in their jaw in addition to the joint area.

Wear and Tear

Bad bites may lead to grinding, clenching or excessive and uneven wear on your teeth. Having your teeth aligned may reduce these problems dramatically.

Gum Damage

Teeth can cause damage to gums when a bad bite is particularly severe. For example, in a person with a deep bite, the gum behind the top front teeth may be bitten by the bottom front teeth and that can cause inflammation and damage to the gum.

Metal and Ceramic Braces

Metal braces are still one of the most common and effective orthodontic treatments on the market. They help to straighten teeth and correct bad bites using a series of stainless-steel brackets, thin metal wires and subtle or brightly coloured bands.

Metal braces have been around for a long time but have evolved to be smaller and more effective. The sturdy nature of this fixed orthodontic treatment means that they can perform more complex tooth movements, making them the popular choice in many cases.

Ceramic braces are the same as metal braces except that they are made of a tooth-coloured porcelain material instead of stainless steel. They are often referred to as clear braces and are a popular choice among appearance-conscious adults.

As ceramic braces share a design with traditional metal braces, they function in the same way, and can be used to treat the same type of complex malocclusions and help correct bad bites.

There are instances where ceramic braces may need to be replaced more often, meaning more appointments, but your individual treatment duration should be much the same with ceramic as with metal.

Clear Aligners (Invisalign)

Clear aligners, such as Invisalign, are made of a clear, plastic material that is moulded into the shape of your teeth. From an initial scan or impression, a series of aligners are made to incrementally straighten your teeth. They are custom fit and virtually invisible which makes them a popular choice for those who are self-conscious about undergoing orthodontic treatment.

Every patient (and their presenting case) is different, so it is important to always consult a specialist to help you make an informed decision. It is best to consult a registered orthodontist who will help you make the right decision about the health of your smile.

In the last few years, we have seen an influx of mail order clear aligner “do it yourself” orthodontic products enter the Australian market. They are sold direct to consumers, meaning there is no face-to-face clinical assessment by an orthodontist. But the repercussions can be devastating.

Here are four reasons why algorithms, apps and technologies cannot replace an actual human orthodontist.

  • Orthodontists are specialists who dedicate their lives to learning. Orthodontics is a complex field that requires intense study and practical training. A specialist orthodontist was first a general dentist before undergoing an additional three years of full-time study to become a qualified specialist. Those three years plus many more years of cumulative learning in the field are a big deal and cannot be replicated by an app or a retail shop assistant.
  • While apps and technologies have evolved in the past few years, they cannot emulate human emotion and empathy. When you are in a dental chair about to undergo a complex medical procedure, you want to ensure you trust the person behind the tools. While corporations see their patients as customers, orthodontists see their patients as people. This means that there is a human relationship underlying the professional one, which creates a solid foundation of trust.
  • Healthcare is the last place you should go bargain hunting. Mail order orthodontic services are sold at a fraction of the price for a reason, and many people are discovering that fast and cheap is not the solution for a healthy and attractive smile in the long term. Orthodontic procedures performed without professional supervision can lead to disappointing results and may cause lasting damage to your teeth and gums. This means that you may later need a specialist orthodontist to provide corrective treatment at an extra cost to you.
  • Simply put, one-on-one, in person orthodontic relationships create the best results. Orthodontics is complex procedure requiring a thorough pre-treatment clinical and X-ray assessment and ongoing supervision to ensure the proposed tooth movements are safe, feasible and long lasting. Direct to consumer orthodontics cannot replace generations of practice and years of learning.
